A '''Remnant Pet''' is a loyal NPC to a player that is obtained from the [[Well of Sacrifice]] with remnant points. All of these pets serve a purpose and give the player specific benefits or bonuses in game. A list of all pets and their benefits can be viewed in game with the <code>::petinfo</code> command. A player can remind themselves what effect their pet gives with the <code>::mypet</code> command. They can also be called to the player's side using the <code>::callpet</code> command if they ever become lost.
A '''pet''' is a non-combat [[Non-player character|NPC]] loyal to a [[Account|player]] that is generally obtained from [[monster]] [[drops]] and [[Skills|skilling]]. Most pets are very rare drops from certain [[boss]]es or skilling activities and do not serve a purpose other than aesthetics. The player is able to interact with most pets, but they may only have one pet following them at a time. Pets are limited to a walking pace (except for [[Nexling]] and [[Tumeken's guardian#Babi|Babi]]); if they become stuck and/or too far away from the player they follow, they will teleport close to the player and continue. They can also be called to the player's side using the "[[Call follower]]" button under the [[Worn Equipment]] tab. There are currently 66 available pets in ''Old School RuneScape'', of which 63 fill a [[collection log]] slot.

Pets may be stored in the [[bank]] or [[inventory]] and will follow the player when dropped. Players can store up to 61 pets in the [[menagerie]] of a [[player-owned house]] (with the highest-level [[Menagerie#Pet house|pet house]]).
Pets may be stored in the bank or inventory and will follow the player when dropped. The benefits will only apply if the pet is currently dropped.

Unlike other pets, [[cat]]s are the only ones that must be raised to maturity by following the player. [[Kitten]]s must be stroked and fed regularly, or they will run away. Once they reach the adult stage, they no longer need to be fed.

===Base Pets===
All base remnant pets are obtainable from the [[Well of Sacrifice]] shop located east of home. They vary greatly in price and effect, and can be purchased with remnant points.

As of December 2023, [[Rocky]] is the most commonly owned pet by players, and the [[Pet penance queen|Penance Queen]] is the least common.

!Effects
When a player receives a one-off pet (i.e. a [[boss]] or [[Skills|skilling]] pet), it will automatically try to appear as their follower. At the same time, a message in the [[Chat Interface|chatbox]] will state {{mes|You have a funny feeling like you're being followed.|color=red}} Upon receiving a pet, a small sound will be heard.

{{Listen

|desc = The sound which can be heard when players receive a one-off pet.}}
However, if a player receives a pet while having a follower out (for example, a [[cat]]), it will be placed into their [[inventory]]. When this occurs, the message in the chatbox will instead state, {{mes|You feel something weird sneaking into your backpack.|color=red}} If a player's inventory is full '''and''' they have a follower already, they '''will not''' receive the pet; it must instead be claimed from [[Probita]] in [[East Ardougne]] for a reclaim token, which costs 1,000,000 [[coins]]. When skilling, the pet is prioritised over the resource gathered; it will be placed in the last inventory slot available{{CiteTwitter|author=Mod Ash|url=https://twitter.com/JagexAsh/status/1033777201815191558|date=26 August 2018|archiveurl=https://archive.is/jS1An|archivedate=30 May 2020|quote=Yes, though skilling features will aim to avoid that by putting a new pet in your inventory ahead of whatever skilling resource you were about to be given.}}, while the resource gathered will be dropped underneath the player if their inventory becomes full. However, this '''does not''' apply to [[Farming]] due to the complexity of the skill's code.{{CiteTwitter|author=Mod Ash|url=https://twitter.com/JagexAsh/status/1162879828384722946|date=17 August 2019|archiveurl=https://archive.vn/feExs|archivedate=14 January 2021|quote=The herb would get the slot and the pet roll would not give you the pet. The devs who plugged in skill pets were able to prioritise the pets for Mining, Hunter, Fishing and Woodcutting, but the Farming code seems to have been nastier to handle that way.}}

As pets are awarded as tertiary [[Drops|drop]]s, players can "obtain" more even if they own the pet in their bank, inventory, menagerie or is following them; when this happens, players will receive the message {{mes|You have a funny feeling like you would have been followed...|color=red}} In addition, players will be given a pet reclaim token, accompanied by the message {{mes|You have been given one free pet reclaim with Probita.|color=#218c21}} The only exceptions are pets that are awarded as main drops, such as the [[abyssal orphan]] and [[smol heredit]].

A few pets can be obtained by gambling rather than being a drop, those being the [[Pet penance queen]], [[Tzrek-Jad]], [[Jal-nib-rek]] and Smol heredit. The latter three require sacrificing their respective item ([[fire cape]], [[infernal cape]] and [[dizana's quiver]]) and makes the same drop rate roll as getting it normally. If the player already owns the pet in their bank, inventory, menagerie or is following them, the pet cannot be gambled for again until lost.

If a player dies with a one-off pet following them (or if it is in their inventory and it is not one of the items protected on death) in a dangerous situation, the pet will be dropped and wander around the area for 30 seconds before despawning. Even if the player returns in time, the pet cannot be picked up, and players must either redeem a reclaim token with Probita or get the pet again from its eligible sources.

If a player runs out of [[members]]hip with a pet still following them, the pet is placed in their [[inventory]]. They will receive the message {{mes|Your pet is scared into your backpack.|color=red}} If the player does not have space in their inventory, the pet is placed in their [[bank]]. If the player's bank is full or exceeds the allowable [[free-to-play]] bank space limit, their pet is sent to [[Probita]] in [[East Ardougne]], where they will have a free reclaim token usable to reclaim their pet.{{CiteTwitter|author=Mod Havik|url=https://twitter.com/JagexHavik/status/1541445907186696192|date=27 June 2022|archiveurl=https://archive.ph/PGH7N|archivedate=29 June 2022}}

==List of pets==
===Boss pets===
Each pet is a potential reward for defeating a certain [[boss]] monster or completing a [[Raids|raid]], including skilling bosses and minigame bosses. Additionally, with the exception of the [[Phoenix]] (rewarded for subduing [[Wintertodt]]), these pets resemble or are capable of resembling the bosses they are associated with.

===Skilling pets===
===Primal Pets===
These pets are obtained by training a specific [[Skills|skill]], with the chance of obtaining one being based on the player's level in the corresponding skill and the base chance of the activity being performed.
Primal Pets are upgraded versions of all the Base Pets listed above. A player can upgrade their pet by sacrificing it to the [[Primal Fire]] located underneath the [[Well of Goodwill]]. To do this, a number of primal components are required and the chance to successfully upgrade is '''not''' guaranteed. The starting base rate, minimum components required, and how much each component raises the success chance by depends on what tier the pet is. Failing to combine your pet with primal components means you will lose your pet PERMANENTLY. A portion of both your remnant points and some of your components will be returned to your inventory upon a failure.

For all [[drop rate]]s, use the formula: <math>\text{DropRate} = \frac{1}{\text{BaseChance} - (\text{SkillLevel} * 25)}</math>. Base chances are found on the individual page for each pet. A player's chance of receiving a skilling pet does not increase past level 99, with only one exception: players with [[200 million experience]] in the corresponding skill will be fifteen times more likely to receive the skilling pet.{{CiteTwitter|author=Mod Kieren|url=https://twitter.com/JagexKieren/status/784723957450702848|date=8 October 2016|archiveurl=https://archive.is/26iPj|archivedate=25 May 2020|quote=15x more likely.}}

As the rates use the player's base level, [[temporary skill boost]]s such as the [[dragon pickaxe]]'s [[Special attacks|special attack]] or invisible boosts in areas such as the [[Woodcutting Guild]] do not affect the rate at which players can obtain these pets.{{CiteTwitter|author=Mod Ed|url=https://twitter.com/JagexEd/status/877884145329897472|date=22 July 2017|archiveurl=https://archive.is/761oo|archivedate=30 May 2020|quote=It doesn't affect the rate but it will allow you to mine slightly faster than you'd be able to otherwise.}}

==One-off pet totals==
===Fissile Kratos===
This is how many times each pet has been obtained by players, sorted by date. On the linked tweets by [[Jagex Moderator]]s, they are also divided into columns based on [[Ironman Mode|ironman]] status.
Kratos is the only Remnant Pet that has a second upgrade tier. To be able to obtain the Fissile Kratos, a player must sacrifice both a Primal Roc and a Primal Kratos to the [[Primal Fire]]. Upon attempting fission, the player will receive their new pet along with x5 Regal Mystery Boxes [[File:Regal Mbox.png|17px]] and Double Drops will be activated globally for all players for 2 hours! The chance to successfully receive a Fissile Kratos is 100% once both pets have been sacrificed to the fire.

A Remnant Pet is a loyal NPC to a player that is obtained from the Well of Sacrifice with remnant points. All of these pets serve a purpose and give the player specific benefits or bonuses in game. A list of all pets and their benefits can be viewed in game with the ::petinfo command. A player can remind themselves what effect their pet gives with the ::mypet command. They can also be called to the player's side using the ::callpet command if they ever become lost.

Pets may be stored in the bank or inventory and will follow the player when dropped. The benefits will only apply if the pet is currently dropped.

List of pets[edit | edit source]

Base Pets[edit | edit source]

All base remnant pets are obtainable from the Well of Sacrifice shop located east of home. They vary greatly in price and effect, and can be purchased with remnant points.

Primal Pets[edit | edit source]

Primal Pets are upgraded versions of all the Base Pets listed above. A player can upgrade their pet by sacrificing it to the Primal Fire located underneath the Well of Goodwill. To do this, a number of primal components are required and the chance to successfully upgrade is not guaranteed. The starting base rate, minimum components required, and how much each component raises the success chance by depends on what tier the pet is. Failing to combine your pet with primal components means you will lose your pet PERMANENTLY. A portion of both your remnant points and some of your components will be returned to your inventory upon a failure.

Fissile Kratos[edit | edit source]

Kratos is the only Remnant Pet that has a second upgrade tier. To be able to obtain the Fissile Kratos, a player must sacrifice both a Primal Roc and a Primal Kratos to the Primal Fire. Upon attempting fission, the player will receive their new pet along with x5 Regal Mystery Boxes Regal Mbox.png and Double Drops will be activated globally for all players for 2 hours! The chance to successfully receive a Fissile Kratos is 100% once both pets have been sacrificed to the fire.
